Sony launches two new stylish Vaio "Media Center PCs"

Sony will update the TP1, their so-called “Media Center” PCs, with the VGX-TP1DQ/B and VGX-TP1D [JP], the company said today [JP].

The main difference between the two models is that the latter features a DVD drive, while the VGX-TP1DQ/B is equipped with a Blu-ray drive. In contrast to older versions, the new PCs come with a double digital TV tuner and improved “Giga Pocket Digital” software for better picture quality and enhanced video recording functions. Using “Vaio Media plus” software, Sony also expanded the TP1’s network capability.

The PCs come with the following features:

– Blu-ray disc drive (VGX-TP1DQ/B only)
– Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 processor (2.1 GHz)
– 2GB of RAM
– 500GB HDD for the VGX-TP1DQ/B and 320 GB HDD for the VGX-TP1D
– NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT GPU
– Felica (e-wallet) function
– integrated Wi-Fi
– wireless keyboard
– HDMI interface
– 4 USB ports

The Nippon-only “Roomba” PCs will be available in Japan starting July 5th. The VGX-TP1DQ/B (in black) will be priced at $1,850, while the the VGX-TP1D (in white) will cost $1,390.
