Photo report: CrunchGear visits the Gundam Cafe in Akihabara (sort of)

I went to the world’s geek paradise, the Akihabara district in Tokyo, today to get lunch in the new Gundam Cafe [JP] that opened just a few days ago. As the name suggests, the Cafe is a dream come true for hardcore Gundam fans, offering everything from Gundam-shaped cakes to restrooms designed in Gundam style.

The problem was that I didn’t have the time to wait 2 hours or so to actually get inside the cafe to have something to eat. Today is a national holiday in Japan, and there were dozens and dozens of people waiting in line to get in (see the picture above). In case you make it to Tokyo one day, the Cafe is just a one-minute walk away from Akihabara JR station.

So the pictures you can see from inside the cafe are courtesy of IT Media [JP] (who could visit the place before it opened to the general public), but at least the outdoor pictures are from yours truly (I know, that’s lame, but I’ll post another Akihabara report later this week and will visit the Gundam Cafe again soon to shoot pictures and videos).
