Grooveshark pulled from App Store

Uh-oh… looks like another attack of the copyright owners. Apple Yesterday pulled the Grooveshark app from the App Store after they received complaints from Universal Music Group UK — this comes just one week after the app’s initial release.

Few details are available right now, but Grooveshark have posted on their blog:

Earlier this afternoon, Apple sent us a letter notifying us that, due to a complaint they received from Universal Music Group UK, Grooveshark for iPhone has been, strangely, pulled from the App Store.

This comes as an absolute surprise to us, and we are not sleeping until we figure out exactly how to fix this—and get Grooveshark for iPhone back in the App Store. Above all, our biggest concern is damaging the service we provide to all of you guys—our loyal (awesome) users.

It’s likely that the problem is with the feature that allows people to upload their own music and share it with anyone. Apparently record companies don’t like people doing this.

Any of you that already have the app on their iPhone are able to continue to use it, but those of you who intended to download it, but put it off mañana, are out of luck.

It’s worth noting that, while the Android, BlackBerry, WebOS, Symbian, and web platforms aren’t affected by this, you can’t really blame Apple’s App Store policies/police for this one: copyright infringement is something every company has to take seriously, even at the detriment to their users.
