Just-Eat acquires online food delivery provider Urbanbite

Fast-growing online takeaway service provider Just-Eat this morning announced that it has acquired Urbanbite, a London online food delivery company. The purchase marks Just-Eat’s entry into the corporate business.

Just-Eat is taking full ownership over Urbanbite, and the latter’s founder Ben Carmona will remain with the company in an undefined ‘leadership role’.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Urbanbite is not a startup as such; the company was originally founded back in 2000.

The company operates a corporate account scheme whereby employees of major corporations or organizations can order dinner online at the company’s expense (subject to a number of proprietary rules and policies).

Urbanbite says it currently processes about 15,000 such orders a month, with 60 percent coming from its corporate customers.

The Urbanbite deal is the third acquisition Just-Eat has completed this year, following a move into Brazil with RestauranteWeb and the earlier purchase of Hungry Zone in India.

Just-Eat is able to make these types of acquisitions thanks to a $48 million funding round the company completed in March 2011.

Just-Eat claims to deliver over 100,000 meals a day and that it has processed more than 30 million orders since the site launched in 2001.
