Update: Facebook Website Experienced 20 Minutes Of Downtime, Mobile App And Website Were Still Working

People on Twitter are complaining that Facebook has been down for about 10 minutes at the time of writing this article. Many TechCrunch writers could confirm the issue. The mobile app and website are still working though.

Other websites are having issues today as well. GitHub for example has experienced some downtimes, but the two outages are probably unrelated. As Facebook.com doesn’t respond or gives a standard error message, Facebook could be to blame. In particular, if mobile apps and websites still work, it may mean that there was an error when executing code for the desktop website.

Facebook is known for rolling out multiple updates a day, constantly iterating on its social network. A glitch in a recent update may affect users right now, in certain areas only where the new code is available.

Update: It appears that the website is slowly coming back with users gradually able to load it again. The outage affected Facebook users for approximately 20 minutes. We’ve reached out Facebook for comments and will update this article when we learn more.

Update #2: Here is Facebook’s official statement.

Earlier today an issue in our service routing layer prevented some users from accessing the site for a brief period of time. We caught the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We apologize for any inconvenience.
