HBO NOW Is Coming To Google Play, Will Support Chromecast

Android-loving cord-cutters who want to catch up on Game of Thrones will get their chance soon — Google just announced that the HBO NOW app will be coming to Google Play.

The HBO NOW app (distinct from HBO GO, which is for existing subscribers) launched earlier this year. It was exclusive to Apple, but only for a limited period of time.

Google executive Sundar Pichai made the announcement while on-stage this morning for the Google I/O developer event in San Francisco. He didn’t say exactly when the HBO NOW app would launch on Google Play, but presumably it’ll be shortly after Apple’s three-month exclusivity window ends.

HBO, however, tells us the app will arrive on Android this summer, along with Cast support for Android, iOS and web browsers on both desktop and laptop computers. In addition, the network says that both HBO NOW and HBO GO will arrive on Android TV “soon.”

“You can watch your favorite episodes, be it Game of Thrones, the upcoming season of True Detective or maybe even your favorite episode of Silicon Valley — I hope this moment doesn’t make it in there,” Pichai said.
