Announced in 2022, the MV7 is hands down one of the best podcaster mics on the market. Last April, Shure updated the line to include the MV7+, which has USB-C connect and a few new tricks designed to get a cleaner sound.
At CES 2025 on Tuesday, the audio company added yet another entry to the line. The MV7i is a “smart” microphone, per Shure’s literature. The main thing that appears to refer to is the ability to plug a second microphone directly into the MV7i through the XLR port, supported by phantom power.
Once the mic is plugged in, a producer can control levels for both channels at once through the Motiv Mix desktop app. It’s an interesting new dimension for the microphone. After all, the first MV7 made waves by bringing Shure audio quality to a desktop podcasting app.
The ability to plug in a second microphone brings back the in-person conversations many of us podcasters abandoned around 2020. Shure is positioning the MV7i as a microphone for beginners, as the company leans more heavily into the software side of things.
“Creators no longer need a separate interface. The MV7i puts it all in one convenient and space-saving package, designed for users regardless of their level of audio knowledge,” Shure’s Eduardo Valdes notes in a release. “Customized control of the microphone through MOTIV Mix makes it even easier to use.”
The interface offers a number of handy features, including auto leveling, denoising, a pop stopper, and adjustable reverb. The Motiv Mix app, meanwhile, brings a number of different recording options, including the ability to get both mics in the same mix, as well as multi-track mono and audio options.
The MVi is now up for sale at $349.
