Mate Rimac
Founder & CEO, Rimac Automobili
Mate Rimac is the founder of Croatian car and technology company, Rimac Automobili, known for its world-leading innovations in high-performance EV technology for automotive brands like Porsche, Hyundai-Kia, SEAT, Renault, Pininfarina and more. In 2011, Rimac Automobili launched the world’s first true electric hypercar, the Concept_One, and is on track to launch the 1,914hp, all-electric C_Two in 2021. As of today, Rimac Automobili has more than 1,000 employees, and counts Porsche and Hyundai-Kia among its stakeholders. Mate founded the company in 2011 working from a garage on his own, but he had already established himself as a relentless innovator and gifted inventor many years earlier. In 2005, he invented an ‘Electric Glove’ to replace a computer’s keyboard and mouse then, shortly after, won an award at the IENA international trade fair for his blind-spot-free automotive rear-view mirror system. In 2007, at just 19, Mate converted his 1984 BMW E30 track car with an experimental EV powertrain, and it was so successful that the humble, garage-built BMW set five FIA-approved and Guinness World Records as the world’s fastest accelerating electric vehicle. Mate remains the major shareholder of both Rimac Automobili and its subsidiary company Greyp Bikes, who specialise in the production of electrically assisted bicycles.
