Multiple sessions at GTC this week are in Chinese, including one by Nvidia about autonomous driving. Prominent Chinese tech companies like Baidu, Alibaba Cloud, and TikTok owner ByteDance also have staff-leading sessions today.
But there’s no sign of DeepSeek, or any of its staff, hosting sessions at GTC this week, according to a TechCrunch search of GTC’s schedule.
That might not be so surprising. DeepSeek’s rise earlier this year led the Chinese government to keep a close eye on it — including by reportedly barring some staff from traveling abroad.
DeepSeek may have temporarily crashed Nvidia’s stock, but the company’s chips remain critical to the company’s growth.
It was even at a GTC event in 2022 that DeepSeek’s parent company boasted about receiving a shipment of 10,000 Nvidia chips, just months before strict U.S. export controls were announced.
