Real-time speech translation coming to Google Meet
Sundar Pichai showcased Google’s real-time speech translation to help break down language barriers, and he gave an example of how it could be useful when booking a vacation rental in South America. Stay tuned for more info, but onstage Pichai said this real-time translation tool will be directly available in Google Meet. English and Spanish translation is now available for subscribers, with more languages rolling out in the next few weeks, he said.

Sundar brags about Gemini’s LM Arena score
Sundar Pichai kicked off his keynote by bragging about Gemini’s performance on Chatbot Arena, the crowd-sourced benchmark operated by the startup LM Arena. A few weeks ago, Cohere accused LM Arena of giving some companies, including Google, more chances to test their models on Chatbot Arena ahead of release.

This post on X, which shows the Google I/O logo and a Waymo robotaxi, was spotted by the team and it seems that Google I/O may produce some news around Waymo, the autonomous vehicle unit under parent company Alphabet. No word yet on what it could be, but stayed tuned.
