Founded in 2006 by Jonah Peretti and John S. Johnson III, Buzzfeed is a news and entertainment, digital media company. Buzzfeed went public through a SPAC in 2021. Pre-IPO investors include: Softbank, New Enterprise Associates, Lerer Ventures, Hearst Ventures and Hearst Interactive Media, RRE Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and NBCUniversal.

Buzzfeed acquired The Huffington Post in 2020, in an all-stock deal that made Verizon Media a shareholder.
